Trekking in Tajikistan and the Pamir Trail with Jan Bakker
Cicerone author Jan Bakker joined us for a live event to discuss the practicalities of remote trekking in the mountains of Tajikistan and his vision for the Pamir Trail, a 1000km cross-country hiking trail linking traditional home stays and providing work for local guides.
Situated in the heart of Central Asia, Tajikistan boasts peaks of over 7,000m and a varied landscape of turquoise lakes, high arid plateaus and glaciers. Whether the Fann mountains or the Pamir mountains, Tajikistan is a fantastic country to experience remote trekking. Jan Bakker's guide to Trekking in Tajikistan offers all of practical information needed to plan and complete a successful multi-day trip in the third highest country on Earth.
Jan shares his experience of Tajikistan and coveres the practicalities of remote trekking including water and food supply issues, visas, mountain safety and transport around the country from the capital of Dushanbe. He also discusses home stays, which offer a real insight into the warm hospitality of the Tajik people and culture.

Jan's latest project is to create the Pamir Trail, a 1000km route across Tajikistan. He aims to hire and train local guides, invest in home stays along the route and collaborate with Tajik businesses and communities.
