What are the Short Walks books?

In a nutshell… guides that contain 15 of the best short walks in each area.

What do you mean by “short”?

Walks under three hours, with no challenging terrain or complicated navigation.

Who are they for?

Casual walkers, families with children, those with only a short time to fill, and those new to an area and looking for inspiration.

Do I need any special equipment?

Just a waterproof jacket and a comfortable pair of trainers.

Not even a map?

Not even a map... each guide includes Ordnance survey mapping, and the clear route descriptions (plus notes on how to shorten or expand each walk) are easy to follow. If you have a GPS device, GPX files are available for download, but this isn’t necessary.

Are the walks complicated to get to?

No, clear instructions on parking and public transport options are included for each walk.

Which areas are covered?

Dumfries and Galloway, Winchester, Malvern Hills, Nidderdale, Arnside and Silverdale, Hadrian’s Wall, Surrey Hills, and Windermere, Ambleside & Grasmere, the Orkney Islands, Winchester… but we’re adding more books to the range all the time, so watch this space!

Why do I need these books?

The best way to explore an area is to get outside and walk! The beautiful photos and route summary tables will help you to choose walks and explore with confidence all-year round. Plus, there plenty of notes on tasty refreshments and local beauty spots along the way…
